#23, What do I know about this Vedanta Society? Did I start it?

Swami Vivekananda wrote to Miss Josephine MacLeod from California, on April 20, 1900: "...What do I know about this Vedanta Society? Did I start it? Had I any hand in it? ..." BLOGGER'S VIEWs *The general impression is that Swamiji started the Vedanta Society of New York. The only thing you will have to do is to make separate arrangements for their food etc." BLOGGER'S VIEWS *OK, with not tampering with their religion (Mohammedan boys). *But, then why make separate arrangements for their food etc.? *Is it desirable or possible to divide dining room on the basis of religion?

#002, India is the dirtiest and unhealthiest hole in the world!

Bankim Chandra called this country: Sujalaam (full of good water), suphalaam (full of good fruits), malayaja siitalaam (full of cool breeze), sasya s`yaamalaam (fertile with crops). Vivekananda wrote to Ms. Ole Bull, from India, on August 19, 1897. "...I had a letter from Joe saying that you are both coming to India. I, of course, will be very glad to see you in India, only you ought to know from the first that India is the dirtiest and unhealthiest hole in the world, with scarcely any European comforts except in the big capitals..." BLOGGER'S VIEWs *Even if it is necessary to give some caution about unhygienic places, would it not have been sufficient to say "Some places in our country may not be upto the standards of cleanliness and hygiene as viewed by European/American standards. This may be due to hundreds of years of foreign rule. Kindly be prepared to put up with them." or in similar other diction? *Have you ever called your country 'the dirtiest a...

019, Natural food, grass, is so abundant and your Highness' servants are fools

Image
Swami Vivekananda wants Indians to eat bellyfulls of grass, instead of undergoing all the troubles of serving others !!! Swami Vivekananda wrote to the Ruler of Khetri on May 22, 1893: "...If our digestive apparatus is exactly like that of a cow — we ought and must be able to eat and digest grass. In that case poor Indians are fools to die of starvation in famine times while their natural food, grass, is so abundant, and your Highness' servants are fools to serve you while they have only to get up the nearest hillock and get a bellyful of grass instead of undergoing all the trouble of serving others!!! Grand American discovery indeed!!! Only I hope the holy dungs of such human cows may become of great use to the wonderful American author and his Indian disciple. Amen. So much for the cow-human theory. ..." This writer's comment: Vivekananda wants us to eat grass, whereas we eat rice and wheat which are nothing but different forms of grass seeds. Are we not su...
