#196, Columbian Fair Organisers were not fair to Vivekananda

Here is a link Click to see Columbus.iit.edu/bookfair/ch26.html . This link contains the "World's Columbian Exposition of 1893" , 'Fair Book', Chapter 26. The World Parliament of Religions, Chicago, 1893, in which Vivekananda participated, was a part of the Exposition. This Chapter 26 narrates the Proceedings. It mentions the names of speakers who have addressed the Parliament. Quote: "... Then came a long array of bishops and archbishops, of priests and princes, of men and women of every race and color, such as Addison might have dreamed of in his vision of Mirza. After prayer and hymn, President Bonney briefly outlined the programme, and was followed by Doctor Barrows with an address of welcome. Then spoke Archbishop Feehan, Cardinal Gibbons, Augusta Chapin, Harlow N. Higinbotham, Alexander McKenzie, Archbishop Dionysios Latas, head of the Greek church, P. C. Mozoomdar on behalf of the Brahminists , and Pung Kuang Yu for the followers of Confucius. ......

#195 Reply to Intolerance of religious bloggers

Here is a link: Click to see bjpfriends.blogspot.com . As the above blogger has deleted my comments dt. 5th July 2008 (Of course, they have a perfect right to do), I could not restore what I wrote there on that day. Anyway, I have replied them today by means of another Comment on 6th July 2008 (7th in India), which they would delete anyway. I am reproducing it here: My Comment dt. 6th July 2008 Since Shri Venkat compared me to Duryodhana who always looked at wicked side of things, now you can see what Vivekananda said about Indians: Swami Vivekananda wrote from USA to Alasinga Mudaliar, on 1st July 1895: "... I know that India is only inhabited by women and eunuchs. ...". "...You babies, great results are attained only by great patience, great courage, and great attempts. ..." How Vivekananda found eunuchs everywhere! Swami Vivekananda wrote to Swami Ramakrishnananda (head of Ramakrishna Math, Chennai, his brother-disciple, also called "Shashi...

#194, Statues are important for Indians and facts are not

Vivekananda Statue to adorn Bangalore City Square soon Here is a link to a blog at blogspot which informs readers that Bengaluru City is going to have a bronze statue of Swami Vivekananda, 9.5 ft. tall and weighing a ton, costing Rs. 25 lacs plus. The Governor has laid the foundation stone. Click to see the report . I have tried to write a mild comment there, but since they have deleted it as a part of their moderation (they have a perfect right to do), I am writing my comments here. BLOGGER'S VIEWS *By the side of the statue, they can append a bronze turtle of 2 ft. height, and keep in his hand a bronze basket of 2 ft. height, containing shad fish, so that true ambience is reflected. *Monks and politicians have one thing in common. They tend to be lavish in spending people's money bronzes and marbles.

#193, Christina- I want to see how much of fat you have accumulated in one year

Swami Vivekananda wrote to Ms. Christina Greenstidel, from Belur Math on the 2nd Sept. 1901: "...Well now, Christina, send me one of your latest photos next mail , will you? I want to see how much of fat you have accumulated in one year . ...". BLOGGER'S VIEWS *Swamiji begging foreign women for photos! *Swamiji wants to see how much of fat, a foreign lady has built in one year! *Some devotees of Swamiji say that the relationship between Swamiji and Ms. Christina is that of father and daughter. Such devotees have to quote their evidence. I am neutral about relationships, till complete evidence is found. *Swamiji sent a document to Ms. Christina duly signed by him and asking her to countersign as Miss, as he erroneously wrote her name as Miss (instead of Mrs.). Pl. see post No.... . Some auction house in UK or USA has to auction this document or the RK cult organisations which hold this document in their store houses have to publish it.

#192, Difference between God and Guru

Here is a link to a blog post titled "Difference between God and Guru": Click to see: Excerpts from the book: Nithyopanishad -- based on the discourses of Paramahamsa Nithyananda on The Master-Disciple Relationship at the Himalayan Yatra 2005 . I wanted to write a comment there itself, but since they blocked comments, I am compelled to write my comments in a blog post here, for the benefit of my readers. Besides, they claimed copy right on the story quoted by them attributed to Vivekananda, I am unable to reproduce the story here. I have tried to trace and test the originality of the story by searching it in the Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda, but could not succeed. Hence I am unable to vouchsafe that the incident narrated by Nityananda had actually taken place, unless they provide evidence. Anyway, in the story Vivekananda was arrogant and haughty on the disciple for saying that God was omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent. (Present everywhere; knows everything; all ...

#191 That is beastly! Not manly! Not monkly!

(Swami Vivekananda spoke to his disciple Sharat Chandra Chakravarty. Place: Belur Math. Period: 1897 or 1901-02. Source: Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda.) "...Why then do you cherish the idea that the wife and children are your own, more than others? At your very threshold, Nârâyana Himself in the form of a poor beggar is dying of starvation! Instead of giving him anything, would you only satisfy the appetites of your wife and children with delicacies? Why, that is beastly! ... " BLOGGER'S VIEWS * Feeding wife and children is beastly . Foreign women should be invited to share shad fish and turtles. * Sending money to foreign women is manly ! (Swamiji Sent $480 to Ms. Christina Greenstidel inviting her to come to India or spend as she likes!) *Asking Swami Brahmananda to offer only Tulasi leaves to worship in the Belur Math! -- This is monkly . *Craving for cigars, ice creams, luchis, mutton, shad fish, turtles!

#190 Thou alone art thy greatest friend

Swamiji lectured at Los Angeles, California, on the Jan. 5, 1900: "...Many times I have been in the jaws of death, starving, footsore, and weary; for days and days I had had no food, and often could walk no farther; I would sink down under a tree, and life would seem ebbing away. I could not speak, I could scarcely think, but at last the mind reverted to the idea: "I have no fear nor death; I never hunger nor thirst. I am It! I am It! The whole of nature cannot crush me; it is my servant. Assert thy strength, thou Lord of lords and God of gods! Regain thy lost empire! Arise and walk and stop not!" And I would rise up, reinvigorated, and here am I, living, today. Thus, whenever darkness comes, assert the reality and everything adverse must vanish. For, after all, it is but a dream. Mountain-high though the difficulties appear, terrible and gloomy though all things seem, they are but Mâyâ. Fear not — it is banished. Crush it, and it vanishes. Stamp upon it, and it dies. ...
