#156 , FIRST CLASS VOYAGE FROM MUMBAI TO USA, WITH POCKETS FULL

MISCONCEPTION In 1893, Swami Vivekananda travelled like a beggar from India to USA, to attend the World Parliament of Religions, Chicago. FACTS 1. Travelled FIRST CLASS from Mumbai. The Ruler of Khetri spent Rs. 1,200 from his pocket for booking the first class. Name of the vessel: P & O Penninsular. 2. Rs. 3,000 (large amount in those days), in the form of Thomas Cook Circulatory Notes. Additional Rs. 500 was sent by Raja of Khetri later. 3. Alasinga (Madras disciple) gave him Pounds 170 in notes and Pounds 9 in Cash. 4. Normally, there should be no need for him to sleep in goods wagons or on steps of mansions of Americans. His wont is also to stay at big hotels or become a guest of biggies.
