1. Sorry for delay.

About "lion among sheeps"

This lion was so timid that he had to sacrifice sheep to Goddess Durga Pooja. Does Goddess Mother Durga ask her human sons to sacrifice Goats? Goats and Sheep are also the children of Goddess Durga. Does she eat her own children?

This Lion was so timid and superstitious to believe that he got diabetes, only because he was compelled to wear a loin cloth. He attributed his diabetes, and wearing loin cloth, to his 'karma'. Swami Vivekananda wrote to Mr. E.T. Sturdy from Ridgely Manor, on Sept. 14, 1899:
"...In India the moment I landed they made me shave my head and wear "Kaupin" (loin cloth), with the result that I got diabetes etc. Saradananda never gave up his underwear — this saved his life, with just a touch of rheumatism and much comment from our people. Of course, it is my Karma, and I am glad that it is so. ..."

Nethaji Subas Chandra Bose gave credit of Indian Freedom Struggle to Vivekananda's teachings.

I have great respect towards Swami Vivekananda and Nethaji Bose. Did Vivekananda participate in Freedom Struggle? No.

Indian Gods and Monks were not like non-violent Buddhists

Firstly, I apologise to you; the fact is there is no proof of existence of God. The concept of 'God' is a human creation. In any culture (Hinduism is not a Religion. It is a culture that prevailed and is prevailing in India), Gods and Goddesses, and Monks are expected to be compassionate. If Gods and monke are not expected to be non-violent, they will not be different from ordinary householders. Superior qualities and traits are expected from them. If Gods and Goddesses exist, the minimum expectation is they will be compassionate and empathetic. This applies to Gods of all Religions and Cultures. Suppose a God says "You sacrifice a goat to me. I shall save you /your family". Then we cannot call such Entity as God.

You have to make a distinction between Indian Rishis and monks. Indian Rishis were householders, though they lived in Forests. According to Uttara Ramacharitra of Bhavbhuti, Valmiki gave feast to Vasishta , Queens of Dasaratha, a feast slaying a black calf by name kapila. According to Vyasa Mahabharata King Ranti deva killed 2000 cattle every day to feed Priests, during four months rest (chAtur mAsya vrata):

Ancient Indian Munis who evolved from monkeys as humans and Earliest Indians, some of them explored the reasons for the joys and sorrows of humans. Their penance involved not prayers. Not sacrificing animals. They took "conquering senses and finding truth(s)" as their goals, and tried to live with that "goal oriented behavior". Ancient Jainism (far older than Svetambar Jainism, Digambar Jainism), and some tribal cultures was our real sanAtan dharma (in the meaning of Ancient Culture).

He practiced openly Non-vegetarianism, smoking etc without any hiding.

Ans; That "not hiding" he did only in Europe and America. Not at Kolkata. Not hiding (transparency) is definitely a great quality. But that alone may not create a role-model for 1.30 billion Indians to emulate.

About: You perhaps don't know that even today these things are offered to him during his Tithi Puja.

Ans: Do you mean to say that these meat, shad fish, cigars etc. are offered to Swami Vivekananda during at tithi pUja? At Belur Math, Sharada Mata (wife of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa) discouraged sacrifice of goats/sheep, and substituted them with 'bananas'. In Bhagavad Gita, there is a verse referring to 'patram, pushpam, phalam, tOyam (leaf, flower, fruit, water) to offer to God. During my childhood, I visited a village called 'pOpUru' in Andhra Pradesh. There the poor priest, whenever he did not have rice to offer to God, used to offer 'nulaka UnDa' (hemp rope used for weaving traditional cots called chArpoys). Same hemp rope bundle, he used to keep with him, and repeatedly use it on all deprivation days.

To know how 'nulaka (hemp rope)' is woven on a cot, you can see Martry Bhagat Singh's photo, available on internet.

He earned money with great hard work of lecturing in USA and UK.

He himself admitted that he has spent all that money as he liked. The donors who gave money specifically for building Temple of his Guru, insisted on submission of accounts for their money. Then he blamed his co-disciples for not maintaining proper accounts. He blamed his Karma. Thus, under stress Donors made him to use the money properly. His mother was paid Rs. 100 per month by Ruler of Khetri. Vivekananda wanted another Rs. 100 per month for his personal maintenance from Ruler of Khetri, but it did not materialise, before Swami's demise, because Khetri-Ruler himself died in an accident. Rs. 100/- per month was a princely sum between 1893-1902.

There used to be ticket to listen him.

During his earlier days, when he had a contract with a "Speech Organising Company", he used to ridicule Christian preachers for collecting money with their 'hats' as bowl. (Note: I am not a christian missionary to defend Missionaries or criticise Vivekananda) When he found that he was cheated by the Speech Organising Company, he shifted to himself collecting moneys from his audience using a hat.

For proof of his ridiculing Missionaries for collecting money from audiences using hats, and for Vivekananda's disappointment with collections in hats when he used the method, you can check his Complete Works.

Dear Shri Unknown, you read the Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda thoroughly, particularly his outgoing letters (called Epistles), with an unbiased mind. You will kow every thing.

About: Imagine when your great grandfather were licking the boots of britishers, Vivekananda was criticizing them in the land of their originele UK and USA.

Ans: My great-grandfathers' names were Lakshmaiah, Veeraiah, Appaiah. My great grand fathers were all agriculturists, who tilled the lands themselves and raised unirrigated food crops such as jowar, greengram, redgram, They followed Smarta rituals and worshipped both Shiva and Vishnu, apart from Devi, Shanmukha, Ganapati, Sun. They were not bootlickers of British. My maternal grandfather was a freedom fighter and a follower of Ayyadevara Kaleswara Rao, during freedom struggle, and he lost 60 acres of land during the process. He did not go to jail. He died before freedom. My maternal grandmother raised her 4 daughters and 3 sons, working as a cook in houses. My paternal grand father, though did not directly participate in freedom struggle, he had resisted Rajakars who came wigh guns into his village.

Now, you check up about your grandfathers.

Question: Did swami Vivekananda lick the boots of British?

Swami Vivekananda might not have directly licked the boots of Britishers. But, in 1897, Raja of Khetri went to London, to attend the Diamond Jubilee of Coronation of Queen Victoria. Vivekananda was sick at that time. He was very eager to attend that Diamond Jubilee Function of Queen Victoria.

Proof: A letter Swamiji wrote from Almora to a foreign disciple of his. Source his Complete Works, Vol.8.

To Miss J osephine MacLeod

ALMORA, 10th July, 1897.
MY DEAR JOE JOE,

I am glad to learn that you have at last found out that I have time to read your letters. Compiled By Virendrasingh Patil

I have taken to the Himalayas, tired of lecturing and orating. I am so sorry the doctors would not allow my going over with the Raja of Khetri to England, and that has made Sturdy mad.

ybrao-a-donkey's personal view, not intended to be imposed on you / or Readers of this Blog, for information only:

Had the Doctors advised Swamiji to go to London for the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria's Coronation along with the Ruler of Khetri, what the Ruler and the Monk would have done in London? Fall at the feet of Queen Victoria?

Final suggestion

You seem to have been misguided by some pseudo-Hindutva-persons. Most Indians are Gullible. If we compile a Gullibility Index, Indians will rank No. 1. Suggestion: Whenever you get doubts please check the scriptures/books yourselves, with an OpenMind. Please be beware of poor interpretations by Priests, Preachers, Monks etc. who have market interests in 21st Century.

2020: A few days back my mother passed away. For just one day cremation, the Priests charged Rs. 20,000/-, with a condition that we should take a 11 day package aggregating Rs. 80,000/-. My brothers agreed. I too shared, though knowing pretty well that Humans do not have souls, and souls will not hang in air for one year or for 11 days or 40 days.

In 1966, my 6th younger brother passed away, as a child of one year age. At that time, we were living in a hut. My father was out of station, and was not expected to return within less than a week. I was studying X/XI Standard and I did not have a single paise with me. I took my baby brother on my shoulders to the grave yard, prayed to the graveyard keepers that I was penniless, dug a pit myself, and buried him. So, Necessity is the mother of Invention. I pray you to come out of the clutches of the Pseudo-Hindus. You cannot learn truths from pandas and preachers. You have to explore yourselves.
