#105, leave the peasants and labourers to look to their own problem

The general impression is that Swami Vivekananda did great service to the peasants and landless. This is because of his sloganistic approaches. I am unable to trace from his Complete Works, even a single instance where he met the peasants, agricultural laborers or the urban poor. The only one instance we come across his meeting workers, is about his cooking food and serving to the workers engaged in constructing the Belur Math Building, during his last days. Very little is found in Vivekananda literature which discusses the real life grass root work place problems of the peasants, agricultural laborers, rural artisans and other workers. The following paragraph of his letter dated Feb. 21, 1900 to Swami Akhandananda, his brother-disciple, from California, USA gives an indication about his approach to problems of the peasants and workers. "... The moment they will come to understand their own condition and feel the necessity of help and improvement, know that your work is taking ...

#104, WHY SWAMIJI WANTS CHRISTINA TO SUBDUE HER EXPRESSIONS?

FACTS Swami Vivekananda wrote to Ms. Christina Greenstidel (Christine)from Marseilles (may be from the ship on way to London from India, during the second visit)on July 23, 1899. In the letter he asked her to come to London dock (to receive him). "... Come to the Dock if that is possible and discreet. Yes, it is discreet, as there is a lady in the party and others will come to meet her. Only, Christina, don't if you feel the least tired or unwell. I hope you are enjoying London immensely. The Orientals do not like any effusion of feeling. They are trained to hide all expression. ..." OBSERVATIONS, INTERPRETATIONS, DEDUCTIONS Meaning of the word "discreet" as per www.dictionary.com: "... 1. judicious in one's conduct or speech, esp. with regard to respecting privacy or maintaining silence about something of a delicate nature; prudent; circumspect ... " . Why did Swami Vivekananda want Ms. Christina to be discreet? Why did he want her t...

#103, All of you are Saadhus and great saints

Swami Vivekananda wrote to Swami Brahmananda (Rakhal) from San Francisco, on Mar. 12, 1900: "... Evil actions leave none scot-free; Mother never spares anybody. I admit my actions have been wrong. Now, brother, all of you are Saadhus and great saints , kindly pray to the Mother that I do not have to shoulder all this trouble and burden any longer. ... " BLOGGER'S VIEWs *What are these evil actions which Swamiji himself is admitting? *Why did he feel that he would not be left scot-free? *Why the sarcasm? *What will happen to his slogan "Arise, awake and stop not till thy goal is achieved"

#102 REPLIES TO COMMENTs

}{^^ HimaLayaNSwaStikA ^^}{ said... on Oct. 22, 2007 Dear Christian Missionary, your blogs does not deserve any body's (Not Only Hindus)comments or attention. I am posting this just to let you know that you are actually writing trash for the sack of publicity. May god direct your intellect in right direction. Get well soon Take care ANSWER THANK YOU VERY MUCH, FOR YOUR VALUABLE COMMENT. Friends: Had I been a Christian Missionary, I would have been flying in helicopters and moving in Benz cars. (One Missionary lent his Helicopter to (Late) Speaker of Indian Parliament.) I am just an ordinary Hindu, who uses his legs for walking or pedals a 1990 model Luna Moped. Had I been a missionary of any religion, I would have stayed and dined at Grand Hotel! Or visited Switzerland in summer. I am just an ordinary hoi polloi who eats idlis and capaatis sold on wayside carts. You have blamed that I am writing for the sake of publicity. Why do I need publicity at this age of 57? Am I going to ...

#101, next phase will be the miraculous touch and not the tongue

Did Swami Vivekananda succeed in making others believe that he had powers and miraculous touch? The answer appears to be : yes. He wrote to Mrs. Ole Bull (Dhira Mata) from Los Angeles on Jan. 17, 1900 (Second visit). " ... I am but a child; what work have I to do? My powers I passed over to you. I see it. I cannot any more tell from the platform. Don't tell it to anyone — not even to Joe. I am glad. I want rest ; not that I am tired, but the next phase will be the miraculous touch and not the tongue — like Ramakrishna's. ..." BLOGGER'S VIEWs *What powers did Vivekananda have to transfer to Mrs. Ole Bull? *How did he use his miraculous touch instead of tongue? *If he has such miraculous touch, why should he go to magnetic therapists for curing his own illness? *What will happen for the slogan 'Arise! Awake! and Stop not till thy goal is achieved!'?

#100, Jesus worked hard for ages in previous births

It is common for yoga and meditation sellers to exaggerate the benefits of meditation. They even deride naturally relieving mechanisms of body like sleep. Swami Vivekananda was not an exception. FACTS He said at his Washington Hall, San Francisco lecture, on Apr. 3, 1900. "... Not even the deepest sleep will give you such a rest as meditation can. The mind goes on jumping even in deepest sleep ... " . BOGGER'S VIEWs *Experience of persons eating turtles and shad fish? *Healthy persons eating 'Satvic foods' get full relief from deep sleep and there will be no need to meditate. In the same lecture, further -- "... To every action there is equal reaction.... If a man strikes me and wounds me it is that man's actions and my body's reaction. ... Suppose I have so much power over the body that I can resist even that automatic action. Can such power be attained? The books say it can. ... If you stumble on [it], it is a miracle. If you learn it scientifi...

099, Virchand Gandhi sent a shipload of wheat and Rs. 40,000 whereas Vivekananda sent clippings

Image
Late Virchand Gandhi was a contemporary of Swami Vivekananda. He represented Jainism, attending the World Congress of Religions 1893, Chicago. He too extensively toured U.S. giving lectures about the tenets of Jainism. Vivekananda blamed Ramanuja and Shankaracharya as pedantics because they have not wept for the poor, whereas he wept for poor. But unlike Vivekananda, Virchand Gandhi was a practical person. When Virchand Gandhi heard the news of severe drought of India in 1896 while he was in America, he at once established a Relief Committee under the Presidentship of Mr. C.C. Boney the President of Parliament of Religions, himself being the secretary. He sent a shipload of foodgrains and Rs. 40,000 as cash as a relief measure for the suffering people in India ... This is a world of propaganda and publicity. Saint or no saint, after a person's death, there should be somebody behind to perpetuate memory by celebrating birthdays, mahasamadhi days, write biographies and...
