Common Sense and philosophies can never go together

A friend has given me an article titled 'Krishnamurti and Commonsense' penned by Ms. Mary Anderson, Secretary of European Federation of the Theosophical Society. Those who give copies of books and leaflets of their favorite authors, normally expect support from the friends who receive and read them. My friend, fortunately was tolerant of criticism and discussion. I, after writing out my impressions while reading the article, in margins, thought that it would be fit for me to share these ideas with my readers. I thought that it would be apt for me to record my ideas (ideas of a lay man or semi-layman), for posterity, whatever they are worth for. You need not agree with me when you read my comments. I have changed the title of this 'Vivekananda yb' blog, to 'Philosophers and Analyses of philosophies' as it will not be prudent for me to start a separate blog, just for the sake of one piece of article. Readers may please keep in mind the realities: Jiddu Krishna...

Eat meat and write wonderful books

Here is a wonderful view from Sulekha.com: naresh-sharma.sulekha.com etc. . SM: I agree that it doesn't seem justifiable to kill other living beings and eat them. But if ancient Indians ate meat and wrote wonderful books, then eating meat may not be all that wrong. Gautam Buddha, Ramakrishna and Vivekananda ate meat. Blogger's comment *Q: Is there any link between eating meat and writing wonderful books? -- Ans: No. *Q: Suppose, you will lose your ability to write wonderful books if you do not eat meat. Which one will you choose? -- Ans: It is a personal choice. I shall prefer to lose my ability to write wonderful books. A la Vivekananda , you may prefer to eat meat and write wonderful books. Asinine mediocre blogs will, for the present, work adequately my sub-goals though these asinine blogs may not become wonderful books. *Q: Does meat eating increase creative abilities or reduce creative abilities? -- Ans: I have recently read the Co...

Vivek Express is wasteful

The Government of India, Ministry of Railways, have introduced "Vivekananda Exhibition" on three trains. Ms.Mamata Banerjee has inaugurated the three exhibitions on three trains and one special exhibition train on 12th Jan. 2011. This special exhibition train Vivekananda Express has arrived in Andhra Pradesh in June 2011. The train “Vivekananda Express” consists of two Air-Conditioned coaches in which photographs, write-ups etc. are exhibited to project the life, work and message of Swamiji. The train will also include one Air-Conditioned 3-tier coach, one power car and one second class-cum- luggage van. The coaches have been refurbished at Liluah Workshop of Eastern Railway. Comments What will be the cost of all these coaches, fuel, travel, staff expenses? Please just imagine. Had Ms. Mamata Banerjee studied the Complete Works of Vivekananda, particularly his epistles to Ms. Christina Greenstidel, or at least a part of this blog , we could have save millions of Rupees on wa...

What is the difference between a chlld bathing its doll and priests bathing an idol?

Hagiographers and blind worshippers of Vivekananda often quote the incident of Swami's encounter with the Prince Mangal Singh , - the Maharaja of Alwar, Rajasthan. Vivekananda , as was his habit of hanging around kings and rulers, visited the Alwar Samsthan, He had an interesting conversation with Prince Mangal Singh. The Prince expressed his lack of faith in idol worship. Vivekananda, then asked the servants to bring a picture of the Maharaja hanging on the wall. The servants brought. Vivekananda asked the Diwan (Minister or vazir) to spit on the picture. The Minister could not spit on the picture , because he temporarily saw in the picture, the image of his late king. Vivekananda (for the purpose of drama) asked them why they were hesitating to spit because it was only a piece of paper. The servants and the Diwan could not spit because they saw a likeness of their late master in the picture. Vivekananda then used the occasion to lecture them about the advantages and merits of...

#001G REPLIES TO COMMENTS OF MR. BHIMASHANKAR

May 12, 2009 10:00 AM Bhimashankar said... you are a missionary man. REPLY I believe that you are calling me a Christian missionary. I assure you, sir, that I am not a Christian missionary. I support , as on date, atheism and Marxism. I am not going to be an adamant, and obstinate blind atheist or Marxist. We can always reexamine our thought processes whenever fresh evidence is available. I am aware that Christian missionaries are creating havoc in India by their reckless abuse of Hindu Gods. But, how you will you respond to it? I shall suggest, that this can be done efficiently by cleansing Hinduism. Vivekananda made a facade of supporting the cause of Hinduism by taking up some lecturing and charity work. But, he ended up as a beggar before the houses of American aristocratic women, mobilising a few bucks for his own personal maintenance. Just as Christian monks (Fathers, Bishops and Pastors etc.) cannot cleanse Christianity, Hindu monks, swamis, anand...

Jerly said... HI. Just was looking up a long back comment and thought about visiting your site. I am amazed to see so much of critical excnhanges in a blog! It does seem you are a bit frustrated with religion. I wish you would read my whole blog labels(the Thomases' Road to realization)These are 12 posts and I have a feeling it should help u. May 22, 2010 6:42 PM REPLY * I am not frustrated with my birth religion or any other religion. * Critical exchanges become natural , when we go for facts. * Nothing wrong went with religion as long as it was intended for 'searching for the secrets of this creation and Universe; as long as it was confined to questions such as : -- Who am I ? -- Why am I here on this Earth ? There were superstitions and some futile worship with animal sacrifices. But there was not much exploitation or cruelty. *The problem started when religion wanted to share power with the State. *The problem started when some religions wanted that everybod...
