Would Ramakrishna Paramahamsa have lived so simple a life?

Modifications to be Aug. 2008 reply: Quotes of those comments at my post No. 080 reply to Rajesh Anonymous said... I am sure that Ramakrishna paramahamsa would have lived simply as Ramakrishna or as Gadadhar if only someone had not taken the pains to foist Narendra into the asramam and then attempt to build a huge institution. He was a Kaali devotee content with that. The trouble was that people did not allow him to live in that mode. August 9, 2008 2:12 AM Multisubj Yb TruthSeeker said... Thank U. U R right. I agree. August 19, 2008 6:09 AM Oct 14, 2011: I am modifying my above comment: First of all, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa did not lead a simple life. He was a Godman of great common-sense and worldly wisdom. Like other Godmen, he knew which bread-loaf of his was buttered and which was not buttered. Simplicity was woven around him by his disciples like Vivekananda. Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, if Narendra (Vivekananda) were not available, would have searched for anothe...
Quote from the book 'While sewing sandals' of Ms. Emma Rauschenbusch, chapter: 'An Ancient Tribe'. When it came to pass, twenty years ago, in the town of Ongole, in Southern India, that ten thousand Madigas turned to Christianity in one year, there was questioning as to the causes of this movement. Devout minds saw in the baptism of two thousand two hundred and twenty-two in one day a modern Pentecost, and were filled with wonder and gratitude. Others enquired with interest concerning accompanying circumstances and conditions, and when they heard of the famine which immediately preceded this movement toward Christianity, they were satisfied that they had here the moving cause. The desire to enter upon the experience of the Christian was considered to stand in direct proportion to the hunger that was gnawing. But the mass movement toward Christianity continued long after the famine was over. Sixty thousand Madigas are to-day counted as Christians. The Madiga community...

Christian Missionaries vs Swami Vivekananda

Time frame: 1899 A.D. Time Link: 1893 to 1901. Swami Vivekananda was visiting U.S.A. the second time. New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Detroit etc. were in his destinations. He was trying to converting drunken Aristocratic American Women to Hinduism or Hindu monkhood. The Christian missionaries were doing the other way round. Example: Location: Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, on the Eastern Coast of South India. Ms. Emma RAUSCHENBUSCH-CLOUGH Ph.D Member of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland - and her father Professor/Rev. A. Rauschenbusch D.D were converting thousands of poor Hindus into Christianity , in a guise of providing food to the hungry. Here is a link to the book titled 'While sewing sandals' by Emma Rauschenbusch at Orchives.org. book titled: While sewing sandals by Emma Rauscenbusch . This link gives the readers the English version. The conversion period was longer than the 5 years job of Vivekananda. It was from about 1870 to...

Common Sense and philosophies can never go together

A friend has given me an article titled 'Krishnamurti and Commonsense' penned by Ms. Mary Anderson, Secretary of European Federation of the Theosophical Society. Those who give copies of books and leaflets of their favorite authors, normally expect support from the friends who receive and read them. My friend, fortunately was tolerant of criticism and discussion. I, after writing out my impressions while reading the article, in margins, thought that it would be fit for me to share these ideas with my readers. I thought that it would be apt for me to record my ideas (ideas of a lay man or semi-layman), for posterity, whatever they are worth for. You need not agree with me when you read my comments. I have changed the title of this 'Vivekananda yb' blog, to 'Philosophers and Analyses of philosophies' as it will not be prudent for me to start a separate blog, just for the sake of one piece of article. Readers may please keep in mind the realities: Jiddu Krishna...

Eat meat and write wonderful books

Here is a wonderful view from Sulekha.com: naresh-sharma.sulekha.com etc. . SM: I agree that it doesn't seem justifiable to kill other living beings and eat them. But if ancient Indians ate meat and wrote wonderful books, then eating meat may not be all that wrong. Gautam Buddha, Ramakrishna and Vivekananda ate meat. Blogger's comment *Q: Is there any link between eating meat and writing wonderful books? -- Ans: No. *Q: Suppose, you will lose your ability to write wonderful books if you do not eat meat. Which one will you choose? -- Ans: It is a personal choice. I shall prefer to lose my ability to write wonderful books. A la Vivekananda , you may prefer to eat meat and write wonderful books. Asinine mediocre blogs will, for the present, work adequately my sub-goals though these asinine blogs may not become wonderful books. *Q: Does meat eating increase creative abilities or reduce creative abilities? -- Ans: I have recently read the Co...

What is the difference between a chlld bathing its doll and priests bathing an idol?

Hagiographers and blind worshippers of Vivekananda often quote the incident of Swami's encounter with the Prince Mangal Singh , - the Maharaja of Alwar, Rajasthan. Vivekananda , as was his habit of hanging around kings and rulers, visited the Alwar Samsthan, He had an interesting conversation with Prince Mangal Singh. The Prince expressed his lack of faith in idol worship. Vivekananda, then asked the servants to bring a picture of the Maharaja hanging on the wall. The servants brought. Vivekananda asked the Diwan (Minister or vazir) to spit on the picture. The Minister could not spit on the picture , because he temporarily saw in the picture, the image of his late king. Vivekananda (for the purpose of drama) asked them why they were hesitating to spit because it was only a piece of paper. The servants and the Diwan could not spit because they saw a likeness of their late master in the picture. Vivekananda then used the occasion to lecture them about the advantages and merits of...
