#191 That is beastly! Not manly! Not monkly!

(Swami Vivekananda spoke to his disciple Sharat Chandra Chakravarty. Place: Belur Math. Period: 1897 or 1901-02. Source: Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda.) "...Why then do you cherish the idea that the wife and children are your own, more than others? At your very threshold, Nârâyana Himself in the form of a poor beggar is dying of starvation! Instead of giving him anything, would you only satisfy the appetites of your wife and children with delicacies? Why, that is beastly! ... " BLOGGER'S VIEWS * Feeding wife and children is beastly . Foreign women should be invited to share shad fish and turtles. * Sending money to foreign women is manly ! (Swamiji Sent $480 to Ms. Christina Greenstidel inviting her to come to India or spend as she likes!) *Asking Swami Brahmananda to offer only Tulasi leaves to worship in the Belur Math! -- This is monkly . *Craving for cigars, ice creams, luchis, mutton, shad fish, turtles!

#190 Thou alone art thy greatest friend

Swamiji lectured at Los Angeles, California, on the Jan. 5, 1900: "...Many times I have been in the jaws of death, starving, footsore, and weary; for days and days I had had no food, and often could walk no farther; I would sink down under a tree, and life would seem ebbing away. I could not speak, I could scarcely think, but at last the mind reverted to the idea: "I have no fear nor death; I never hunger nor thirst. I am It! I am It! The whole of nature cannot crush me; it is my servant. Assert thy strength, thou Lord of lords and God of gods! Regain thy lost empire! Arise and walk and stop not!" And I would rise up, reinvigorated, and here am I, living, today. Thus, whenever darkness comes, assert the reality and everything adverse must vanish. For, after all, it is but a dream. Mountain-high though the difficulties appear, terrible and gloomy though all things seem, they are but Mâyâ. Fear not — it is banished. Crush it, and it vanishes. Stamp upon it, and it dies. ...

#188, I LONG FOR MY RAGS, MY SHAVEN HEAD, MY SLEEP UNDER THE TREES

Swami Vivekananda wrote to Mrs. Ole Bull from New York, on Jan. 25, 1896: "... I long, oh! I long for my rags, my shaven head, my sleep under the trees, and my food from begging! India is the only place where, with all its faults, the soul finds its freedom, its God. All this Western pomp is only vanity, only bondage of the soul. Never more in my life I realised more forcibly the vanity of the world. May the Lord break the bondage of all — may all come out of Maya — is the constant prayer of VIVEKANANDA. ..." BLOGGER'S VIEWS *Did Swamiji go back to his rags? Shaven head? Sleep under the trees? *Was his food from 1900 to 1902 in India obtained by begging? *If his renunciation was real, why did he need expensive furniture at Belur Math? *If his longing to rags was real, there was no need to sign documents with Ms. Christina Greenstidel. *If his longing to rags was real, there was no need for him to send #480 to Ms. Christina Greenstidel, praying her to come to India or spe...

#187, Black hole of London where I had to work almost day and night

Swami Vivekananda wrote to Mr. E.T. Sturdy, noted Sanskrit Scholar in Nov. 1899, about the room provided by by Miss Muller: "...The next memory is that of the black hole of London where I had to work almost day and night and cook the meals oft-times for five or six, and most nights with a bite of bread and butter..." BLOGGER'S VIEWS *Calling a room a black hole. Even getting a black hole should be difficult in a Metro City like London. *Did Swamiji expect luxury hotels? *While writing this letter, Swamiji was staying at Ridgely Manors, a resort owned by Mr. Leggett, near New York, teaching yoga to inebriated women. See post #.. at this blog. *Swamiji was making all these accusations because Mr. Sturdy questioned about his habits. Mr. Sturdy was not as accommodative and liberal as Mr. Leggett. Mr. Leggett was not a Sanskrit scholar, but a shipping magnet and tea trader. Sturdy was a Sanskrit scholar well-versed in Hinduism and Buddhism. Hence he expected a high stan...

#186, India is full of lazy rogues and curious- they never die of hunger

Swami Vivekananda wrote to Ms. Joe Joe (Josephine Macleod) from Almora on July 10, 1897: Moreover, they have to see that cheats do not get the food of the deserving. India is full of lazy rogues, and curious, they never die of hunger, they always get something . Ask Brahmananda to write this to everyone in relief-work — they must not be allowed to spend money to no good. We want the greatest possible good work permanent from the least outlay. BLOGGER'S VIEW When a hungry mouth in a famine ravished village sits in row, can Akhandananda drag him/her away, preventing from eating? The morsel of food or gravy will be a feast to him. Is India really full of lazy rogues? Vivekananda's DIRECTING shows that he did not know the ground realities prevailing in India, because he did not undertake much grassroot work. TRUTHs *Only ochre-robed monks can afford to be lazy because they get money from Rulers and Seths (In 2007: Real Estate Builders and Industrialists). Nobody else can. *In ...

185, I belong as much to India as to the world

Image
Almost all the Political Parties, Preachers, Teachers, Celebrities, Eminent Persons raise Swami Vivekananda as a Great Patriot, National Representative, and National Uplifter of this wretched India. We shall see facts, from the Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda. Swami Vivekananda wrote to Mr. Alasinga Mudaliar from Paris on Sept. 9, 1895: "... As for me, mind you, I stand at nobody's dictation. I know my mission in life, and no chauvinism about me; I belong as much to India as to the world, no humbug about that. I have helped you all I could. You must now help yourselves. What country has any special claim on me? Am I any nation's slave? ..." BLOGGER'S VIEWS *Same Swamiji was begging Alasinga on Apr. 9 1894, to 'get hold of big bugs' and get a resolution that Hindu Community of Madras was satisfied with his work. Pl. see proof in post #052. *In one year what a change! *Who helped whom? Did Alasinga Mudaliar help Swamiji or did Swamiji help Alas...

#184, Ladies, Ladies, Ladies, packing every place

" ... From that day I became a celebrity, and the day I read my paper on Hinduism, the hall was packed as it had never been before. I quote to you from one of the papers: "Ladies, ladies, ladies packing every place — filling every corner, they patiently waited and waited while the papers that separated them from Vivekananda were read", etc. You would be astonished if I sent over to you the newspaper cuttings, but you already know that I am a hater of celebrity. Suffice it to say, that whenever I went on the platform, a deafening applause would be raised for me. Nearly all the papers paid high tributes to me, and even the most bigoted had to admit that "This man with his handsome face and magnetic presence and wonderful oratory is the most prominent figure in the Parliament", etc., etc. Sufficient for you to know that never before did an Oriental make such an impression on American society. ..." BLOGGER'S VIEWS Vivekananda perfected in the art of self-...
